You just did the thing millions of people still haven't. Sit with that for a second.
Here's the whole lesson in three lines. AI chat is pattern matching for language at scale — not a person, not magic. It's genuinely useful for drafts, ideas and explanations, and genuinely risky for facts you haven't checked. And you've now used it — at least one real prompt, one real reply.
That's ground zero. Everything else on this site builds straight up from here.
Words you'll hear again
- Prompt — what you typed.
- Model — the pattern system doing the predicting.
- Agent — AI that takes steps and uses tools, not just one reply (we get to this in Lesson 4).
Don't memorise them. Just know the words were never magic.
Try it yourself (optional)
Stay in the same chat and send a follow-up: "Make that shorter" or "Now explain it like you're telling a mate in the pub." Watch how it remembers the conversation in that window — that memory is part of what makes it feel like talking to someone.
Continue — why any of this matters beyond curiosity.
