As of June 2026 — menus move. Use official help if labels differ.
Pick one platform you actually use. Do the steps. You don't need all three today.
Option A — ChatGPT
Official guide: Data Controls FAQ
- Sign in at chatgpt.com
- Click your profile icon → Settings
- Open Data Controls
- Find "Improve the model for everyone"
- Off = new chats should not be used to train ChatGPT (history may still save)
- On = you allow training on new conversations
- Optional: note whether chat history is on (separate from training)
- Optional: read about Temporary Chat (not used for training; short retention)
You should see: the toggle state clearly labelled — write down ON or OFF for your account.
Option B — Claude
Official guide: Model improvement settings
- Sign in at claude.ai
- Settings → Privacy
Or open claude.ai/settings/data-privacy-controls - Find Help Improve Claude (or similar wording)
- Toggle off if you don't want new chats used for training
- Optional: skim retention notes on that page
You should see: your choice saved; no need to change it if you're happy with it — knowing is the point.
Option C — Gemini (Google account)
Uses your Google account controls, not only the Gemini app.
- Sign in to your Google account
- Go to Google Account → Data & privacy
- Find Gemini Apps Activity (search Google Help if the label moved)
- Review: activity on/off, auto-delete options, delete past activity if offered
- Remember: other Google settings (e.g. Web & App Activity) may also matter — read what Google shows you
Help: search Gemini Apps Activity on Google Support
You should see: where Google says your Gemini interactions are stored and how to limit them.
After the check
In one sentence in a notes app (or on paper):
On [platform], training/activity for my chats is: ON / OFF / mixed — and I will use red/amber/green before I paste.
Continue when you've finished one platform.
